Norway Grants Silicon Producer 1.3 Million Extra Free EU Allowances

Norwegian authorities have allocated an additional 1.3 million free EU Emission Allowances (EUAs) to a domestic silicon manufacturer for the 2021‑2025 compliance period. The decision follows a review that identified the country’s metals sector had been disadvantaged compared with similar facilities operating within the European Union.

The corrective measure aims to align Norway’s allocation framework with EU standards, ensuring a level playing field for the silicon producer. The extra allowances are expected to support the company’s transition to lower‑carbon operations while maintaining competitiveness in the regional market.
